One of San Antonio’s prolific Fiesta medal makers has decided to embark on the next chapter of their business in a brand-new spot. SA Flavor – the company best known for working with local organizations and nonprofits while spreading Puro San Antonio culture through fiesta medals – has moved locations.

The owner of SA Flavor Garrett Heath said since 2015, the company has been on a ride, helping create medals for the Fiesta season and beyond, and helping raise as much as $300,000 for nonprofits. With the continued success of the business, Heath had decided to open a store front in 2023.

The small space down Zarzamaora, Heath said, was a huge success, and helped guide the business into a new direction. On top of the regular Fiesta medals, he decided to start taking in some business from other vendors to sell, including stuff from BarbacoaApparel. So, SA Flavor is now carrying hats, T-shirts, stickers, plush “squishies” and other themed puro San Antonio Items.

However, Heath said their time at the Zarzamora location came to an end in December 2023, and it was time to make a move to their next spot. Heath took the company to the Strand Shopping Center at Huebner Oaks, 11255 Huebner Road, Suite 203, San Antonio, TX 78230.

“We want to show folks that SA Flavor is going to be so much more than medals this year,” Heath said. “It’s a great space and people can find unique gifts in addition to Fiesta medals.”

The grand opening for the new location was held on Saturday, January 20, where they also released their latest medal: a blinking lights Stranger Things themed medal that lights up and spells “VIVA.” Heath said he was really excited to unveil that medal, and is even happier to be donating some proceeds from it to Kinetic Kids, which sets up athletic programs for children with disabilities.

That in mind, Heath said he is hoping the new store front can also give more nonprofits a chance to step into the establishment so they can work together to provide more support for their causes. He also hopes that since the new place is surrounded by other businesses that draw folks out, more people will wander into his store. But even of some folks can’t make it out there, his website still has items available for purchase, year-round.
