BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A 36-year-old mother is facing several charges after her oldest child called 911 saying her and her younger sibling had been left alone for more than 10 hours when their mom went out to drink.
On Jan. 18, Bexar County deputies responded to a call from a 12-year-old girl saying that their mother, identified as Misty Dawn Lewis, left her and her 9-year-old sibling at home alone after she said she was going to pick up a package, but never returned.
BCSO said during the investigation, it became clear that Lewis had left her child unsupervised for a “prolonged period of time.”
Deputies requested the children for a cell phone ping for Lewis, which led them to find her at a location on Flipper Drive.
Authorities said when they approached Lewis, she appeared to be intoxicated and smelled like alcohol.
After being questioned by deputies, Lewis reportedly admitted to leaving her children at home by themselves.
Lewis was arrested and faces two counts of abandoning or endangering a child and possession of a controlled substance as deputies discovered a small amount of cocaine on her while she was being taken into custody.
Lewis was booked into the Bexar County Jail.
