Motorcyclist killed in crash with SUV, police say

Police say the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle, landed in a backyard, was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene.

SAN ANTONIO — A motorcyclist was killed after a crash involving an SUV on San Antonio’s west-side Thursday afternoon, police say.

It happened just before noon on Galm Road at Shoreline Drive, not far from Culebra Road.

Police say the motorcyclist was ejected from his motorcycle, landed in a backyard, was pronounced deceased by medical personnel at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.

According to witnesses at the scene, the driver of the SUV was headed south on Galm Road towards Culebra Road and tried to make a left turn into a neighborhood. The motorcyclist was going in the opposite direction and hit the front end of the SUV as it was making it’s turn. The victim was thrown over the fence into a yard.

Witnesses say they believed speed might have been a factor in the collision. Both the driver and the passenger in the SUV were taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Officials don’t believe any charges will be filed and said it appears to have been an accident. No sign of intoxication on either of the drivers, and the driver of the SUV did not try to leave the scene.

First responders from both San Antonio police and Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputies were on the scene because while SAPD owns the street, the neighborhood is in Bexar County, so it’s in both of their jurisdictions.

This is a developing story.
