Multi-agency pursuit ends safely in Guadalupe County, sheriff’s office says

A nine-minute pursuit involving multiple agencies ended safely in Guadalupe County after the driver fled into the river near Seguin, officials said.

SEGUIN, Texas — A multi-agency vehicle pursuit that entered Guadalupe County Monday morning ended safely after the driver fled into the Guadalupe River, according to the Guadalupe County Sheriff’s Office.

Officials said the sheriff’s office assisted the Texas Department of Public Safety and the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office during the chase, which entered Guadalupe County around 10:36 a.m. on Interstate 10 eastbound near mile marker 539.

The suspect vehicle, described as an orange Hyundai, continued east on IH-10 before law enforcement deployed spike strips near mile marker 610, successfully slowing the vehicle.

Authorities said the driver then exited onto State Highway 90 toward Seguin and stopped near the Guadalupe River bridge.

The driver fled on foot and entered the river, but officials said a coordinated response involving multiple agencies and aerial support led to the suspect being safely detained around 10:44 a.m.

No injuries were reported, and the sheriff’s office said traffic impacts were minimal, with all lanes on IH-10 and SH-90 remaining open.

The pursuit lasted about nine minutes and involved deputies and officers from Guadalupe County, DPS, Bexar County and the Seguin Police Department.

Officials said questions regarding the driver’s identity, the reason for the pursuit or potential charges should be directed to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.
