SAN ANTONIO — Editor’s note: The above video is from earlier coverage of the story.
A major crash involving four vehicles on the northeast side leaves several people injured and one person dead Friday afternoon.
Emergency crews responded to the multi-vehicle crash on NE Loop 410 near Starcrest Drive around 3:30 p.m.
San Antonio Police say a Jeep was driving westbound in the 2700 block of NE Loop 410 from the entrance ramp entering the main lanes. Police say those lanes were slowed down due to normal afternoon traffic.
That’s when the driver of the Jeep reportedly hit a Dodge 2500 with a steel bed that was ahead of them. The Jeep driver said they were at highway speed when they saw the traffic stop, but witnesses say the Jeep was driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic.
The Jeep driver said they attempted to brake and swerved to avoid the Dodge in front of them, but ended up hitting the vehicle, causing “severe intrusion” into the Jeep’s front passenger seat where a 20-year-old woman was sitting. The woman was taken to hospital where she was later pronounced dead.
Several other drivers had minor injuries, authorities say.
Several lanes of traffic were blocked due to the accident.
Charges may be pending for the driver of the Jeep, who was also a 20-year-old woman.
This is a developing story.
