There’s a potential for evening precipitation that could freeze later Friday night and early Saturday morning.
SAN ANTONIO — Three San Antonio districts have announced they’re rescheduling or outright canceling after-school events Friday, when there’s a potential for slick roads as anticipated rain freezes over later in the night.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Bexar County until 9 a.m. Saturday, citing the freezing rain possibility. But any precipitation that does fall in the Alamo City is expected to be very light, bordering on a drizzle.
Northside, North East and San Antonio ISDs are all taking the precautionary measure ahead of the possible precipitation. NEISD said Saturday morning events “will be delayed,” SAISD said district personnel will contact families regarding scheduled Saturday events and NISD says it will “continue to monitor weather and road conditions” ahead of the weekend.
Friday night will be the last time during this week’s arctic blast that the mercury dips to freezing levels, which have gripped San Antonio in unseasonably cold conditions since Wednesday morning. The National Weather Service says San Antonio could get up to 0.03 inches of ice accumulation, but impacts should remain minor and limited to “untreated bridges and overpasses, decks, signs and vehicles.”
Of the surrounding communities, New Braunfels is expected to see the most ice accumulation, at 0.08 inches. But any ice creating slick roads should start to freeze by 9 .m. Saturday, when temperatures climb back above freezing for regional communities before reaching 42 degrees in the afternoon.
Sunday will return sunnier, warmer conditions to San Antonio, including an expected afternoon high in the low-to-mid-60s.
