The driver of the vehicle is currently in the hospital in critical condition, SAPD says. Two police officers sustained minor injuries.
SAN ANTONIO — Several crews responded to a multi-vehicle crash on the northwest side of San Antonio on Monday afternoon.
Around 5:20 p.m., an accident happened at the intersection of Wurzbach Road and Ewing Halsell in the Medical Center area of northwest San Antonio.
The crash included a San Antonio Police cruiser, a VIAtrans van, a UPS truck, two passenger sedans and a pickup truck.
There was no immediate confirmation on the number of injuries, but people involved were seen being treated at the scene of the crash.
SAPD says that a 25-year-old driver of a small sedan was driving westbound on Wurzbach when he had a “seizure-based” medical episode, according to his 21-year-old cousin who was in the passenger seat.
The driver lost control of the vehicle and at 60 mph hit one car and sideswiped the VIAtrans van. The van then clipped the UPS truck and an SAPD patrol vehicle. All vehicles were stopped at the red light when they were hit.
Two officers were in the patrol vehicle, both expected to be okay. One officer had some lacerations while the other could have some broken ribs.
The driver of the vehicle is currently in the hospital in critical condition, SAPD says. He had some lacerations and suffered some trauma from the crash, according to SAPD.
A VIA spokesperson confirmed that a VIAtrans van was struck in the crash. The van driver was not injured, and there were no passengers aboard at the time.
No other injuries were reported.
