KERRVILLE, Texas — Just around the corner from the downtown mural in Kerrville on Water Street, outside of Hill Country MHDD’s emotional support space is a brand new mural. It was just put up Thursday and there is a lot of blank space because they want you to come out here and leave your mark in the form of a handprint.
“I think it’s very important and I think that we are in a place where we are doing so much on a day-to-day basis,” said Dr. Ashlee Miller-MHDD Centers, Senior Director of Clinical Care. “We don’t have time to slow down and process our feelings, our thoughts, and we want people to know that’s normal and they have a place to come to when they are ready for us to be a listening ear.”
They say this mural is a symbol of unity, resilience, and impact anyone living here or a volunteer has made. Anyone is welcome to come down and participate in this growing and living piece of art. Every handprint is a reminder that we’re all in this together.
“We’ve had community members come up,” said Tyler Townsend, Mental Health peer counselor. “We’ve had some office staff come in participate and we welcome anybody because this mural is here for the community. This is the time and place where if you feel like you want to do something and you are limited and if you have the energy to just come up here and place your hand on the wall and leave your mark its the place to do it.”
If you want to lay your hand in the paint and leave your handprint on this beautiful artwork meaning so much, you can come down here when the office is open between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. If those hours don’t work for you, you can call them to schedule a time at (830) 955-1745.
