Murder suspect arrested after shooting in far west Bexar County leaves man dead, BCSO says

Officials say that the suspect and two other people arrived to the area where the victim was. An argument then took place followed by multiple gunshots heard.

SAN ANTONIO — A man is dead after officials say they believe he was shot by a 21-year-old suspect who has now been arrested.

Around 7:13 p.m. Monday night, Bexar County deputies were called to the 6700 block of Calle Fincias for a shooting in progress. When they arrived, they found a man in his early 20s with a gunshot wound to the upper torso. He was pronounced dead at 7:43 p.m. despite lifesaving efforts.

Officials say that the suspect, later identified as Mason Ray Rodriguez, and two other people arrived to where the victim was located. An argument then took place followed by multiple gunshots heard by witnesses. Rodriguez and the two other people allegedly fled the scene before officials arrived.

Investigators were able to identify Rodriguez as the possible shooter and arrested him after he came back to the scene and surrendered to authorities making claims of self defense.

BCSO said they believe Rodriguez’s motive for the fatal shooting was that he and the victim previously might’ve shared a romantic partner.

The suspected weapon used in the murder was allegedly found buried in another yard nearby.

Rodriguez has been booked into the Bexar County Jail and faces a murder charge.
