SAN ANTONIO — The Alamo announced it will host the Nasdaq closing bell ceremony on Thursday, March 5, marking the first time the iconic stock exchange will ring its bell live from Alamo Plaza.
According to The Alamo, the ceremony will take place from 2:45 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the eve of the 190th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, which was fought March 6, 1836.
Nasdaq, the world’s first electronic stock market and currently the second-largest stock exchange by market capitalization, typically holds its weekday closing bell ceremony at its MarketSite in Times Square in New York City. Several times each year, Nasdaq leaders travel across the country to host the ceremony at landmark locations, according to The Alamo.
Alamo officials said the public is invited to attend the ceremony, giving locals and visitors a chance to watch a piece of financial history unfold at one of Texas’ most storied sites.
The event comes as the city prepares to commemorate the 190th anniversary of the Battle of the Alamo, blending global finance with Texas history in a setting known as the Shrine of Texas Liberty.
