National Gun Violence Awareness Day: Candlelit vigil to honor anyone impacted by gun violence

The vigil will put on by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Moms Demand Action. It will take place at 6:30 p.m. at the Main Plaza

SAN ANTONIO — After the spike in shootings with five happening just over the weekend alone, community organizations are saying it’s time to make a change.

Friday is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and different events are happening around San Antonio.

One of those events is a candlelight vigil put on by the Archdiocese of San Antonio and Moms Demand Action. The vigil is honoring anyone impacted by gun violence.

It will be happening at Main Plaza at 7 p.m.

Attendees will be able to bring a photo of their loved ones lost to gun violence to display on the memorial wall.

Community leaders, nonprofit organizations and survivors of gun violence will also be speaking and demanding change.

This vigil is one of hundreds planned across the country this weekend as part of Wear Orange Weekend, a national campaign for a future free of gun violence.

You’re encouraged to wear the color Friday and the weekend to bring awareness to the issue.

As for Friday’s vigil, Moms Demand Action says the program will start at 7:30 p.m.
