The San Antonio Spurs are set to clash with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Cup Knockout game, which is seeing viewership numbers spike.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Spurs will take on the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Cup Knockout game this Wednesday in Los Angeles, a matchup that should be incredible.
Leading up to the pivotal game, fans have been tuning into the Cup games and the numbers prove.
According to the NBA, more than 40 million people in the U.S. watched the Emirates NBA Cup 2025 Group Play games across Amazon Prime Video, NBC/Peacock, and ESPN, up 90% from last year and the most-watched Group Play in the event’s three-year history.
SPURS DROP IN NBA POWER RANKINGS
The NBA released its latest power rankings, and the Spurs have dropped a notch from No. 8 to No. 9.
The basis for the slight dip is due to a demanding recent schedule and defensive numbers sliding (rebounds) significantly impacted by Victor Wembanyama being out due to injury.
Victor Wembanyama has now missed the last 10 games, and the Spurs continue to survive (7-3) without both him and Stephon Castle (who’s missed the last nine games). It has been a strict schedule of late, with six of the Spurs’ last seven games on the road and six of the last eight against teams currently over .500.
The Spurs have suffered on the glass (on both ends of the floor) without Wembanyama. They rank 24th in total rebounding percentage (48.2%) over his absence, down from fourth (53.4%) over the 12 games that he was in uniform.
The Spurs will continue their tough stretch, including a road game versus the Lakers, and a possible trip to Las Vegas for the NBA Cup tournament, and not to mention a pair of games against the West-leading Thunder ahead.
