LEWISVILLE, Texas — A traffic stop for expired tags led to a major drug bust in North Texas over the weekend.
An officer with the Lewisville Police Department pulled someone over Sunday for expired tags and driving without insurance, the department announced in a Facebook post. Since driving without insurance is illegal in Texas, the officer told the driver he would have to tow the vehicle.
While conducting an inventory on the vehicle, LPD said the officer noticed the smell of marijuana coming from inside. A further search revealed 285 pounds of marijuana in a sealed compartment of the car, police said.
