Cheese-smothered burgers and some of San Antonio’s best shakes can be found off Broadway Avenue.
SAN ANTONIO — You heard it here first: Everything about Cheesy Jane’s is CHEESY.
“Cheese is a big deal, of course,” said Owner Tirso Sigg.
Located on Broadway Avenue just down from where Broadway and Hildebrand meet, Cheesy Jane’s is kind of like stepping back into the all-American 1950s.
“I have 30-plus years in the restaurant business,” said Sigg. “I decided, ‘Well, I’m gonna go in, because I used to bring my kids here.’ I really loved the concept of the diner.”
The menu favorites are the burgers. But we’re not talking just any burgers… these are burgers smothered, dripping, covered in cheese–with flare to spare.
“We are always creating new dishes and adding different flavors like some Latin infusion, especially from Mexico,” Sigg said.
He says the diner serves organic, grass-fed meats, and it makes its own crunchy onion rings from scratch.
The idea of fresh ingredients is a big deal to Sigg; we had to try some out for ourselves.
First up, the Chile Poblano Rajas Burger. (Side note: Cheesy Jane’s offers plastic gloves to help you attack any melty cheesy burger of your choice. I’d recommend that!)
“Poblano peppers with creamy cheesy sauce,” said Sigg.
I loved it! It’s a meal… trust me, you’ll be full!
Second, we tried the Chilaquiles Burger.
“We make the green salsa for the chilaquiles here,” Sigg said. “We top the meat with the chilaquiles.”
For those who like some spicy on their burgers, this one’s for you. But it’s also very flavorful and filling.

And last we tried the Triple Crown Burger. I could barely pick it up, it was so massive!
“It is like three different patties with three different cheeses and some crumbled bacon on top,” said Sigg.
Very all-American, in my opinion. In fact, it was my favorite, as burger-ish for me as it gets!
And, for the third time, very filling.
Even though you might be full up, you’ve apparently gotta make room for the best milkshakes in the city!
“I’m not worried about the competition, but we do have the name for the shakes, that’s for sure,” Sigg said.
I’d highly recommend a lunch full of yummy fun at Cheesy Janes. You’ll probably have that 2:30-feeling after your finish, but hey, that’s part of the fun.
“Imagine a burger without the melted cheese,” said Sigg.
After a moment, he adds: “Juice and melted cheese.”
