Neighbors concerned as SA police search for suspects in shooting that wounded 10-year-old sleeping inside home

SAPD says the same home was hit by gunfire in 2024 where another person died in the same room on the same couch.

SAN ANTONIO — A 10-year-old boy is in the hospital in stable condition after a northwest-side shooting, according to police.

SAPD was called to the 1600 block of West French Place for a shooting on progress around 5:18 a.m. Thursday morning.

Police say a 10-year-old boy was sleeping on the couch in the living room of the home when nearly 30 shots were fired, hitting the boy in the ankle. He had four other siblings and two adults also in the home.

Gilbert Elizondo, who’s lived in the neighborhood for 50 years, heard the gunshots.

“I heard like four consecutive gunshots and then I heard automatic fire and that really bothers me,” Elizondo said. “You think you’re in your safe spot at hope then this happens. It makes you feel like there’s no sanctuary anywhere.”

The boy sustained non life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.

As for Linda Jessie, who lives near where the shooting took place, her heart is with the little boy.

“It’s a shame. What’s it going to take for these people to stop doing drive-bys,” Jessie said. “Because I have grandkids that age and I worry about it every day because kids are innocent, they don’t deserve it, they really don’t.”

Police also say the same home was hit by gunfire in 2024 where another person died in the same room on the same couch. In that incident, a 61-year-old was found shot and killed after dropping off his wife at work.

No information has been given on the suspect in the case of the 10-year-old boy who was shot. A family member told KENS 5 the boy is expected to make a speedy recovery.

This is a developing situation and KENS 5 will continue to update this article as we learn more.
