A historic senior housing site is getting a major makeover, with new units and renovations planned for nearly 90 low-income seniors.
SAN ANTONIO — A major affordable housing project is getting underway on San Antonio’s west-side, bringing new life to a longtime senior community.
Groundbreaking is set for Thursday at Alta Vista Jaime P. Martinez, a $23 million project that will include both renovations and new construction at 120 S. Trinity Street.
Once complete in 2027, the site will feature 89 units for low-income seniors.
That includes the renovation of 48 existing units, formerly known as Sacred Heart Villas, along with 41 newly built units.
Developers say the project aims to preserve the history of the community while expanding housing options for seniors in need.
The development is backed in part by a $6 million loan from the City of San Antonio.
Leaders say the project is part of a larger effort to expand affordable housing and provide supportive living spaces for seniors across Texas.
