A Walmart distribution center entrenched in the Texas Hill Country since 1988 will soon undergo changes. The multi-million dollar remodel is expected to last over a year.
The Walmart distribution center in New Braunfels is set to receive $21 million in facility upgrades, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing (TDLR). Construction on the warehouse renovation is expected to start on June 23 and last just over a year with an estimated completion date of July 23, 2024.
The TDLR filing states the scope of the work will include “selective demo, new exterior door, installation of new material handling equipment, new electrical service and equipment, fire suppression updates, and compressed air updates.”
In 2014, the New Braunfels distribution center underwent an expansion, according to a San Antonio Express-News report. At the time, the $8 million expansion added 20 receiving and shipping doors, which brought the total number of loading docks to 151. It also helped the facility process 18,000 to 20,000 item cases per hour, which was higher than the previous 12,000 amount the warehouse was able to process.
The 34-year-old Walmart distribution center in New Braunfels is the fifth oldest for the company, according to the report.
The warehouse is located at 3900 N. I-35 Frontage Road, New Braunfels, TX 78130. MySA reached out to Walmart for a comment on the distribution center remodel.
