New Braunfels woman dies after being hit by dump truck, police say

The driver was taken to the hospital at his own request.

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas — A woman was hit and killed by a dump truck in New Braunfels Monday evening, according to the police department.

Emergency responders were called to the 200 block of north Seguin Avenue around 5:45 p.m. for reports of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian. 

Police said the driver, 60-year-old Jude T. Jones was driving a dump truck and was stopped at a red light between Seguin Avenue and Mill Street. Jones reportedly failed to yield the right-of-way and struck the victim. 

According to New Braunfels police, EMS tried to save the victim but she died from her injuries. The woman was identified as 60-year-old Stephanie Madzy of New Braunfels. Jones was taken to the hospital at his own request. 

Police said Jones has been detained and charged with Criminally Negligent Homicide and was taken to the Comal County Jail but additional charges may be pending. 

New Braunfels police said this remains an ongoing investigation.
