SAN ANTONIO — A young man arrested in a standoff on the east side Sunday night had four warrants out of San Antonio and Converse.
Joe Yanez, 19, is one of three men arrested after leading state troopers on a chase that ended in the stand off.
He was wanted for an aggravated assault that took place in San Antonio on December 7 outside a business.
According to the affidavit, he and three other suspects are accused of firing off 28 rounds, striking a man in his arm. The victim had surgery but is expected to survive.
In Converse, Yanez had two warrants for possession of a stolen firearm. According to the arrest affidavit, it mentions a possible connection Yanez may have to a deadly drive-by shooting that claimed the life of a 22-year-old.
It happened on Wednesday, December 6, off Arundal Garden near FM 1516. Yanez is not charged for the shooting, but the affidavit revealed new details about what took place that day and night.
Detectives identified the victim as Khadija Derry. They said she was sitting inside a Dodge Charger outside her uncle’s home, where she was living, when she was shot at 18 to 20 times. It states her uncle is a Bexar County Deputy.
It also states Derry’s younger sister told detectives, a girl threatened her earlier that day, telling Derry’s sister, “She and or her family were going to get shot or popped.”
The affidavit states there was an Instagram video posted by what appears to be a gang that shows the moments leading up to the shooting, sounds of gunfire and the moments right after the shooting.
Converse Police said Monday night, they are looking into multiple suspects but have not identified any of them.
Meanwhile, Yanez is in the Bexar County Jail with bonds totaling $220,000.
