The changes signed off by Gov. Greg Abbott cover every topic from education, crime, and business.

AUSTIN, Texas — It may be a federal holiday on Monday, but new state laws are still taking effect.

The changes signed off by Gov. Greg Abbott cover every topic from education, crime, and business.

One that has a lot of people talking about is the Ten Commandments being posted in every classroom, but not every school is San Antonio is following this new change.

Alamo Heights ISD, North East ISD, Northside ISD, and Lackland ISD are four out of 11 school districts in the state blocked in a federal ruling to have the Ten Commandments in the classroom.

As the legal battle continues for these districts, Attorney General Ken Paxton directed other schools in the state to follow the new law change.

Another new law is Senate Bill 12, which bans DEI in K-12 schools. It will stop DEI hiring and training requirements and stop curriculum on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Senate Bill 13 requires every school district to establish a library advisory council.

These councils will decide what books are added or removed from libraries.

In business news, lawmakers passed Senate Bill 2024 banning stores from selling vapes containing THC or any other cannabis substances made with hemp including Delta 8.

Businesses that continue to sell these products can face up to both a year in jail and a fine up to $4000.
