Bexar County extends the burn ban for 90 days due to persistent drought and wildfire risks, allowing limited trash burning while warning of penalties for violations.
BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — Bexar County officials have announced a 90-day extension of the burn ban due to extremely dry conditions that continue to plague San Antonio and it’s surrounding areas.
The new order extends the current ban, which was set to expire at midnight on Monday, Feb. 9, and takes effect on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 and run until Monday, May 11, 2026, officials say.
“Even though we recently experienced icy and wet conditions, the County continues to experience extremely dry conditions with heavy fuel sources on the ground that may facilitate wildfires,” the county stated in a press release. “The drought index for the county continues to climb well over 500 in certain parts of the County.”
This extended burn ban will allow Bexar County residents to burn trash in “burn barrels with a metal wire mesh screen lid to prevent the spread of sparks and flames.”
County officials also reminded residents that a violation of the burn ban is considered a class C misdemeanor and is punishable of a fine up to $500.
