New Pre-K 4 SA campus aims to close gap in child care options in south-side San Antonio

It’s the first Pre-K 4 SA campus designed with help from both architects and early-learning specialists. The center features indoor and outdoor classrooms.

SAN ANTONIO — Pre-K 4 SA celebrated the grand opening of its brand-new school on San Antonio’s south side Wednesday morning.

The South Education Center is the first in the city designed to serve infants, toddlers and preschoolers, program officials announced.

The more than 53,000-square-foot facility, located at 3510 South WW White Road, was built through a public-private partnership between Pre-K 4 SA and HOLT Group.

The collaboration aims to expand access to affordable, high-quality early childhood education, particularly on the south side—which program leaders say faces a shortage of child care options.

Pre-K 4 SA leaders said the new center includes indoor and outdoor classrooms, training rooms and offices and was designed to support both children and educators.

In addition to offering prekindergarten for 3 and 4-year-olds, the center includes four classrooms for infants and toddlers—a first for the program.

“When families can access affordable child care, household incomes rise, workforce productivity improves, and the city benefits from a more diverse and resilient economy,” said HOLT Group CEO Peter J. Holt. “Removing barriers to employment through child care is a direct investment in San Antonio’s economic vitality.”

City leaders, including Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones and District 3 Councilwoman Phyllis Viagran, attended the grand opening ceremony and called the project a significant investment in the south-side community.

According to the City of San Antonio’s Early Learning Landscape Study, the area has one of the highest needs for quality early learning options.

Pre-K 4 SA officials said the new center reaffirms the organization’s mission to strengthen educational foundations for San Antonio’s youngest learners.
