New year, new shows: Majestic Theatre lines up classic hits for 2025 Broadway lineup

Take a look at some of the iconic, catchy and never-before-seen musicals coming to the Alamo City in 2025.

SAN ANTONIO — From the Greek myths to 19th century France to the fantastical world of Oz, the Broadway musicals coming to the Majestic Theatre this new year will take us on quite a journey. Several classic shows as well as some modern ones will stop in San Antonio on their tours around the U.S. 

Take a look at some of the iconic, catchy and never-before-seen musicals coming to the Alamo City in 2025.

Hadestown

The year kicks off with Hadestown, the haunting and hopeful musical that intertwines two Greek myths. The story tells the two tales of young lovers Orpheus and Eurydices and King Hades and his wife, Persephone. Reviews say the thoughful story is “eerily apt for the times.” 

The musical runs 2 hours, 30 minutes with one intermission. It is recommended for ages 8 and up.

The show runs from Jan. 10-12 and you can find tickets here.

Les Miserables

Considered the world’s most popular musical, even audiences who have seen it multiple times will still delight in this fresh take on the classic. The uplifting story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and the endurance of the human spirit is coming to life on stage in late January. 

The show runs 2 hours, 55 minutes with one intermission. It is recommended for ages 10 and up.

Funny Girl

Another classic musical comes to San Antonio. This love letter to theater tells the story of Fanny Brice, a girl from the Lower East Side who dreamed of a life on the stage. The show first opened on Broadway in 1964 and is partially based on Brice’s life and career. 

The show runs 2 hours, 50 minutes with an intermission. It is recommended for ages 10+.

Mamma Mia

Who could resist the story of three possible dads and a trip down the aisle, all set in a lush Greek island location and to the classic tunes of Swedish supergroup ABBA. Before there was the Girlmore Girls, there was Donna and Sophie, the mother daughter duo who find that their relationship is tested by Sophie’s quest to find her real father. The wacky hiiinks ensue along with some epic dance sequences. 

The musical runs 2 hours, 35minutes with one intermission. It is recommended for ages 6 and up.

The Wiz

Ease on down the road for the revival one of the most-celebrated musicals of all time. The Tony Award-winning show is an adaptation of the beloved Wizard of Oz. The Wiz premiered in Baltimore 50 years ago. The story follows Dorothy’s classic journey to the tune of and iconic score with soul, gospel, rock, and 70s funk. This national tour is unique in that it’s running ahead of a Broadway residency in New York, the first tour of its kind in 40 years. 

The Wiz runs 2 hours, 20 minutes with one intermission.

The show runs at the Majestic from May 6 – 11. Tickets go on sale on Jan. 31.

The musical full of glitz and glamour is based on the iconic 2001 film Moulin Rouge! directed by Baz Luhrmann. The modern retelling brings the story to life on stage remixed in a new musical mash-up. It is directed by Tony Award winner Alex Timbers. 

Moulin Rouge! runs 2 hours, 35 minutes with one intermission. It is recommended for ages 12 and up due to adult themes.

The show comes to the Majestic May 27 – June 8. It would make a good Valentine’s Day gift for that special someone as tickets go on sale Feb. 14.

Announcements of the shows for the 2025-2026 season of Broadway in San Antonio is expected later this year.
