No arrests, case rejected: Family of slain San Antonio dad says killer is still out there

More than a year after the murder, the case has been sent back to the SAPD due to insufficient evidence—and loved ones say they’re still waiting for answers.

SAN ANTONIO — It’s a moment Julia Pacheco says she will never forget—the call that shattered her family forever.

“It was a Saturday… we got the phone call, saying that he had passed,” said Julia.

Her son, 27-year-old Raul Robles, had been shot and killed.

More than a year later, his family says they’re still waiting for answers while the person responsible hasn’t been arrested or charged.

According to the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD), officers were dispatched just after 1:28 a.m. on Oct. 5, 2024, to the 1100 block of Patricia Drive for a shooting in progress. When they arrived, they found Robles outside his girlfriend’s apartment with a gunshot wound to the head.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators say Robles had been arguing with several people when someone pulled out a gun and opened fire. The shooter fled in a vehicle.

Police briefly detained occupants of a suspicious car nearby, but investigators say they later determined the people in the car were not involved.

For his parents, the loss goes far beyond a police report: They remember a son who loved barbecuing, smiling and spending time with the people closest to him.

“He was a loving son. Loving dad. Loving uncle, brother,” Julia said. “He just loved being around family.”

His father, Isaac, describes him as a hard worker devoted to his life and his loved ones.

But what hurts most, they say, is watching Robles’ 7-year-old daughter grow up without him.

“Just to see his daughter… it’s hard,” Isaac said. “You can see the pain in her eyes.”

“She was a daddy’s girl,” Julia added.

Weeks after the shooting, Crime Stoppers released photos of two persons of interest connected to the case.

Since then, the family says the investigation has gone quiet.

“A year and a half later, still no answers. That’s the hardest part,” Isaac said.

As the months pass, the Pachecos say they are holding tight to memories—photos, stories and the sound of Robles’ laughter.

But they’re also holding onto hope that someone will come forward.

Julia has a direct message for whoever pulled the trigger.

“Come forward. Say the truth,” she said. “You took a life. Be man enough to come forward and admit what you did.”

KENS reached out to the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office requesting an updated status on the case. In a statement, the office said the case “was rejected due to insufficient evidence and has been referred back to the San Antonio Police Department for further investigation.”

“Our office has had several in-depth conversations with Raul’s family discussing the evidence findings and facts of the case, including the reasoning behind this decision,” the DA’s office went on to say. “We also made it clear that if new evidence emerges, the case may be reopened.”

SAPD says the case remains active.

Anyone with information is asked to contact SAPD or submit a tip through Crime Stoppers. Tips can remain anonymous.

For Robles’ family, even the smallest tip could mean everything. They say they just want closure, and the truth.

“We just we want closure. You know, we want our justice system to say, ‘Hey, we did all we could,’” said Isaac.
