“My grandson had a breakdown a little while ago. That’s not fair. That’s not fair that two young kids have to grow up without their dad.”
SAN ANTONIO — Nearly two weeks after the fatal shooting of 26-year-old Jon Kross Perez-Levaeh, his family is mourning his loss and calling for justice as police continue their search for suspects.
Perez-Levaeh was shot and killed Feb. 8 just before 7 a.m. at what police described as an “after-hours club” on the city’s East Side. The shooting occurred on Rigsby Avenue near Roland Road, according to authorities.
Investigators believe Perez-Levaeh was leaving the club with friends when five suspects followed him, assaulted him and then shot him. No arrests have been announced.
His mother, Heavyn Sanchez, said the past two weeks have been especially difficult as she leans on her faith and the faith her son shared to cope with the loss. She said she is grateful for the outpouring of love and support from the community.
“No parents should bury their kids,” Sanchez said.
Perez-Levaeh leaves behind two young children, a 5-year-old son and a 6-year-old daughter. Sanchez said her grandson recently struggled to process his father’s death.
“That’s not fair,” she said. “That’s not fair that two young kids have to grow up without their dad.”
On Saturday, friends, family members and community supporters hosted a plate sale fundraiser to help cover the remaining costs of Perez-Levaeh’s burial.
“Just to give him a good farewell,” Sanchez said. “He deserved it, nothing less than that.”
Police recently released photos of two vehicles believed to be connected to the suspects — one silver and one blue — and are asking for the public’s help in identifying those responsible.
Sanchez said the family does not seek revenge but wants those involved to come forward.
“For the individuals who did this, that you just have a conscience and be able to turn yourselves in,” Said Destiny Villarreal, Jon’s Aunt . “We don’t seek vengeance.”
The family is urging anyone with information about the killing to contact authorities.
“You could be saving somebody else’s life if these men are found and they’re taken off the streets,” Sanchez said.
Anyone with information is asked to call police. Crime Stoppers is offering up to a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest, and tips can be made anonymously.
