BEXAR COUNTY, Texas — A young man was arrested for aggravated assault and murder on Tuesday.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office Gang Unit arrested Isaac Deigo Gonzales (17) just before he started a Facebook live to let people know he was about to be arrested.
Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar says Gonzales was bragging on social media a few days prior and sent the BCSO a message that read “Tell everyone at the gang unit I said catch me.”
“I’m happy to say he’s behind bars tonight,” Salazar said.
Salazar said on October 4, 2022 Gonzales and a 15-year-old accomplice did a drive by shooting on Bald Mountain Drive in a possible retaliation on a group of gang members, but tragically struck the wrong house.
According to Salazar the suspects fired almost 100 round into the neighbor’s house and 25-year-old Novita Brazil was shot and killed instantly.
“She was a completely innocent bystander. Just a young lady working her way through college and doing her homework during the wee hours of the night,” Salazar said.
A 41-year-old woman was also shot. She was renting a room in the house through Airbnb for a Spurs game.
After the shooting Gonzales and the alleged teenage accomplice led police on a high speed chase in a stolen Kia, Salazar said.
During the chase the suspects dumped out several guns that were used in the shooting. The suspects were immediately apprehended, arrested and transported to the Bexar County jail where they shortly made bond, Salazar said.
According to Salazar the suspects cut off their ankle monitors which led authorities to issue warrants for their arrests.
“We’ve been literally (working) around the clock looking for these folks,” Salazar said of the BCSO who worked alongside the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force to find these suspects.
Several days prior the alleged teenage accomplice was arrested by deputies after another police chase. During the pursuit the suspect was doing an Instagram live laughing and bragging about the situation.
“They have thumbed their nose at the law every step of the way,” Salazar said.
Once the accomplice was arrested the BCSO concentrated their efforts on finding Gonzales. Salazar says they are planning on charging Gonzales as an adult.
“We’re going to do everything in our power to make sure he doesn’t get a bond.”
According to Salazar, Gonzales’s sister was also arrested for harboring a fugitive.
Salazar believes the teenage accomplice was also being hidden by his mother and expects her to be arrested soon.
The family knew the police were looking for them and went out of their way to lie to law enforcement by saying they did not know where these men were, Salazar said.
Both Gonzales and the teenage accomplice are being charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and felony murder.
“These are just in my opinion blood thirsty heathens with no regard for human life,” Salazar said.
When asked if this uptick in violence is becoming a trend Salazar said, ” It looks like its going to get worse before it gets better.”
But Salazar said in San Antonio violence comes in cycles and the BCSO is prepared to confront it and that they are doing everything they can to take care of the people in Bexar County.
