SAN ANTONIO — The disaster relief nonprofit Mercy Chefs is announcing a new plan to serve hot meals in the Hill Country three weeks after the floods devastated the area.
As the community starts the recovery and rebuilding process, food access and insecurity remain an immediate problem.
Mercy Chefs says they’re making a Beacon of Hope Kitchen at the nonprofit Light on the Hill at Mount Wesley. Chefs there will make hot and fresh meals through December.
The nonprofit says the Beacon of Hope Kitchen will have upgraded equipment, a bigger cooking area and a warehouse for grocery and food storage.
Mercy Chefs says they’ll operate here as they continue to look for a more permanent work site.
They’re currently working at City West Church and will continue providing lunch and dinner there during and after the transition.
The kitchen at Light on the Hill will be located at 610 Methodist Encampment Road in Kerrville.
With the new kitchen, Mercy Chefs says there will be work opportunities for anyone without a job.
Mercy Chefs will announce their full plans today at 11 a.m. at City West Church on Junction Road.
