North East ISD committee recommends consolidation of 3 campuses, cites loss in enrollment

SAN ANTONIO — North East Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Sean Maika announced Monday a plan to close three schools for consolidation into other campuses in the upcoming school year.

NEISD said its Long-Range Efficiency Committee spent several months looking at the data from several factors including facility assessment, district budget, costs per student, enrollment and capacity. The committee ultimately found that campus consolidation is necessary.

“I take our responsibility to our children and community seriously. And while this is a difficult process, we must be good stewards of our taxpayer money,” Dr. Maika said in the announcement.

The following three campuses have been identified for consolidation into other campuses:

The superintendent said a plan for relocation of students, staffing and other specifics will be brought before the Board of Trustees for review and action in February.

“I hope you know that we value all our school communities, and this recommendation is not being made lightly,” Maika said. “We pledge to be transparent and open with you every step of the way.”
