North East ISD names lone finalist for superintendent at Monday board meeting

North East ISD had appointed Anthony Jarrett as interim superintendent back in December.

SAN ANTONIO — The North East ISD Board of Trustees voted Monday on a lone finalist for superintendent.

Anthony Jarrett was appointed as interim superintendent back in December after longtime superintendent Sean Maika resigned his post. At Monday’s meeting, the board voted to name Jarrett the lone finalist for the district’s top job.

Maika announced in late 2025 he was stepping down from leading the district where he had been superintendent for six years. He’d been with the district in various roles since 1995.

Jarrett has worked in public education for more than 25 years, according to the district, including six years with NEISD.

“He has maintained a strong commitment to student success, academic excellence and community partnerships,” said Board President David Beyer. “We are confident that his leadership, experience, and vision will help guide our District forward, toward continued growth and opportunity for all staff students and families.”

At the meeting, Jarrett shared shared his appreciation for the appointment and the board.

“Sitting in this role is a humbling experience,” said Jarrett. “The mindset of service first and self second is something that I fundamentally believe in. I think working alongside you guys, I know our District will continue to grow, get better and be one of the best districts in the country.”

According to state rules, NEISD trustees must wait at least 21 days before officially voting to appoint Jarrett as the official new district superintendent.

North East ISD currently serves 57,000 students across 67 campuses, and is the second-largest district in San Antonio.
