SAN ANTONIO — There was a wild scene outside North Star Mall Monday morning just before 9 a.m., when a two-vehicle crash ended with a car wedged up in a tree and a utility pole completely sheared off.
San Antonio Police said the crash happened when two drivers thought they both had the right of way.
One driver turned in front of the other in what was essentially a head-on collision. The force of the collision left a utility pole smashed apart about three feet above ground level and a small sedan ended up with the rear portion of the car suspended above the ground on the trunk of a tree, according to SAPD.
Police said there were three people in the sedan. The female driver was not injured, nor was a baby strapped in a car seat in the back seat.
Fire officials confirmed a man who was a passenger in the front seat of the sedan was taken to the hospital. Police said his leg was trapped for a time because of the nature of the crash but they said he’s expected to be okay.
A Jeep that was involved had very little damage to the push bar on the front of the vehicle and the driver was able to drive away unharmed.
The Jeep driver and police expressed gratitude that the crash ended with mostly property damage and no major injuries.
