FORT WORTH, Texas — Here’s your chance to live like a king, or at least the owner of a Major League Baseball team.
Just bring a few million bucks in your pocket.
The mansion built by Bob Simpson, the founder of XTO Energy who purchased the Texas Rangers with Ray Davis in 2010, is being auctioned off in December.
Concierge Auctions is handling the bidding, which begins Dec. 3 and closes on Dec. 18.
The 19,359-square-foot “castle estate” in the Montserrat luxury neighborhood (formerly home to Selena Gomez, as well) was custom-built for Simpson, who sold the property in 2021, according to Tarrant County property records. The home was listed for $11.75 million, and Concierge expects the bidding to start between $4 million and $6.5 million.
Here’s a description of the home from the listing:
This remarkable castle estate spans over two acres of meticulously landscaped grounds, offering an unparalleled lifestyle of grandeur and resort-caliber amenities. Indoor and outdoor pools, private pond, professional sports court, and dedicated guest quarters with a studio to create endless entertainment possibilities. Multiple living spaces flow throughout seven thoughtfully designed bedroom suites, each complemented by spa-inspired baths and custom finishes. The wine room, private theater, custom-designed gymnasium, and owner’s suite with a private office above with your own elevator from the primary suite demonstrate extraordinary attention to sophisticated living.
The listing also notes the home was constructed by J. Lambert Custom Home for “the owner of the Texas Rangers.”
Simpson likely isn’t a name many Rangers fans know. Davis, his partner in the club’s purchase in 2010, is the managing partner and majority owner of the club. But Simpson, who made his fortune as founder of XTO Energy, was a co-chairman of the Rangers after he and Davis led the $590 million purchase of the club after bankruptcy proceedings in 2010. Simpson now serves on the Rangers’ executive committee.
