North Texas father arrested after daughter’s alcohol poisoning death

The 17-year-old girl was found not breathing and was taken to a hospital, where she died, police say.

SHERMAN, Texas — A North Texas father accused of providing his teen daughter with alcoholic drinks hours before her death of alcohol poisoning has been arrested, police say.

The Sherman Police and Fire Departments were called to the 800 block of North Sam Rayburn Freeway January 10 and found a 17-year-old girl not breathing, according to a press release. The girl was taken to a local hospital and later pronounced dead, police say.

An investigation determined the teen died of alcohol poisoning, acute ethanol toxicity, police say.

The girl’s father, identified as Michael Cain, 35, is suspected of providing the girl with alcoholic drinks and drinking them with her hours before her death, according to police.

Police got a warrant for Cain for criminally negligent homicide and arrested him last week, a press release states.

Cain was booked into the Grayson County Jail last week and has a $100,000 bond, jail records show.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing, police say.
