North Texas high school student arrested for stabbing another student, police say

According to police, the victim was treated at the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

DENTON, Texas — A student at Denton Ryan High School was arrested Friday morning after stabbing another student, according to Denton police.

The incident happened around 9:10 a.m., police said. The suspect was detained at the scene immediately, and the victim was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, according to police.

According to Denton PD, following an on-scene investigation, the suspect was taken to the Denton County Juvenile Detention Center for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. 

Denton ISD released the following statement on the stabbing:

“This morning, emergency medical services (EMS) responded to Ryan High School after a student was injured in a classroom incident. The student’s family was immediately notified, and the individual responsible was taken into custody by law enforcement.

All other students were promptly and safely relocated at the time of the incident, and staff worked quickly with first responders to ensure the situation was contained. The matter has been fully addressed. 

We want to commend the students and their teacher for the calm and quick way they followed established safety procedures during this situation. Their actions, along with the swift response of staff and first responders, helped ensure the safety of everyone in the classroom. As always, the safety and well-being of our students will always remain Denton ISD’s top priority.”
