North Texas house fire possibly sparked by Tesla charger, officials say

Aerial footage showed extensive damage, including a Lexus completely charred and structural damage to the roof and garage area of the home.

LEWISVILLE, Texas — Firefighters pulled a charred vehicle from a Lewisville home after it caught fire Monday afternoon, according to fire officials.

The fire began at about 12:30 p.m. at a residence in the 300 block of Meadowview Way, the Lewisville Fire Department (LFD) confirmed. By 1:15 p.m., firefighters had the flames under control, though crews are still on scene watching for hot spots.

The homeowner told LFD that after plugging in her Tesla vehicle to the charger, she noticed “some electrical arcing coming from the charger unit.” That’s when the charging unit caught on fire, prompting the woman to remove the Tesla from the garage and park it down the street.

Lewisville FD said the flames from the charger unit spread to the game room above the garage and into the attic of the second floor.

A second vehicle, a Lexus, was still in the garage and was destroyed by the flames.

Aerial footage from WFAA’s Chopper 8 showed extensive damage, including the Lexus completely charred and structural damage to the roof and garage area of the home.

No injuries were reported, authorities said.

This is a developing story. WFAA will provide updates once it becomes available.
