McKinney police and fire responded to a home after a family member requested a welfare check.
MCKINNEY, Texas — A 42-year-old North Texas man was arrested and charged with murder after his wife was found dead in the closet of their home, according to police.
McKinney police and fire responded to a home in the 5700 block of Broken Spur Drive after a family member in Dallas requested a welfare check, officials said in a press release. The welfare check request stemmed from relatives overseas who believed Eslam Mohamed “may have been experiencing a medical emergency.”
McKinney fire personnel arrived at the home first and forced entry, officials said. When they got in, they found Mohamed on the living room couch with minor injuries and “visible blood on his hands,” according to the release. Fire personnel asked Mohamed if anyone else was in the home, and he referenced a female in the closet, the release stated.
Firefighters then found 40-year-old Kubra Zafer, who officials say is Mohamed’s wife, dead in the master bedroom closet with a stab wound to the neck. A knife was found nearby, the release stated. After finding Zafer’s body in the closet, firefighters immediately exited the home and waited for police to arrive.
Mohamed was taken into custody, transported to Medical City McKinney for treatment, and later booked into the Collin County Jail for murder, officials said.
The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
