A union official says that a longtime USPS driver died over the weekend.
DALLAS — The U.S. Postal Service confirmed it’s investigating after union officials say a letter carrier died in North Texas.
Dallas Fire-Rescue says they responded to a call about an unconscious person shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday in the 2500 block of Medical District Drive. A Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesperson said CPR was performed on the patient, but the patient was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
Dallas police say they responded to the unconscious person call in the 4900 block of Bengal Street around 5 p.m. Saturday after Dallas Fire-Rescue was already on scene providing treatment.
An official with the National Association of Letter Carriers told WFAA the person was USPS driver Jacob Taylor, 51, who’d worked with the USPS for 28 years. A Medical Examiner’s report confirms a Jacob Taylor was pronounced dead shortly after 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Parkland. His cause of death is pending, according to the medical examiner.
Dallas police say their investigation into the death is also ongoing.
USPS officials confirmed the incident is under investigation but declined to provide more information.
Taylor’s death comes just over two years after Dallas USPS mail carrier Eugene Gates, 66, died June 20, 2023, while delivering mail on his route in Lakewood amid sweltering summer heat in North Texas. Gates’ death sparked conversations about the working conditions of USPS letter carriers.
