Off-duty Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy arrested for assaulting family member

Benjamin Morales, 21, was assigned to the Detention Bureau and had been employed since February.

SAN ANTONIO — An off-duty Bexar County Sheriff’s deputy was arrested by San Antonio Police for assaulting a family member Tuesday evening.

Benjamin Morales, 21, was assigned to the Detention Bureau and had been employed since February.

SAPD was dispatched to the 700 block of Carolina Street, close to South Cherry Street near downtown, around 7 p.m. for reports of an incident.

Since Morales had only been employed with the BCSO for less than a year, he was issued a probationary termination in accordance with BCSO policies and procedures with Bexar County Civil Service Rules.

A separate but concurrent administrative investigation is underway, pending the outcome of the criminal case that is being handled by the SAPD.

“This now former deputy knew the expectations upon him, as well as the ramifications of his actions,” said Sheriff Javier Salazar. “The agency mission will continue without him.”

He is charged with Assault Bodily Injury- Family/ Household, which is a Class A Misdemeanor.

His bond is set at $2,500.
