Off-duty deputy arrested on DWI charge after crash on north-side, BCSO says

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office identified the deputy as 47-year-old Martin S. Martinez.

SAN ANTONIO — An off-duty Bexar County Sheriff’s Office deputy was arrested late Thursday night on a charge of driving while intoxicated after a crash near Loop 410 and Airport Boulevard, according to officials.

BCSO identified the deputy as 47-year-old Anthony Trevino. The agency said the crash happened around 11:29 p.m. on Dec. 11, when Martinez allegedly failed to follow a turning signal at the intersection and continued straight, striking another vehicle.

San Antonio police officers responded to the crash and took Martinez into custody on a DWI charge, BCSO said.

Martinez, a two-year veteran with the agency, is assigned to the Judicial Services Section as a bailiff. He has been employed with BCSO since Nov. 21, 2023.

Following the arrest, BCSO said Martinez was issued a notice of proposed dismissal and placed on paid administrative leave pending termination, in accordance with department policy and Bexar County Civil Service Rules. A separate internal investigation is underway while SAPD handles the criminal case.

Sheriff Javier Salazar issued a statement Friday regarding the arrest.

“This gentleman does not have the ability to choose the consequences of his actions, and I strongly urge him to consider what his next career chapter will look like,” said Salazar.
