Sergeant Michael McGuire has been with the Schertz Police Department for more than two decades.
SAN ANTONIO — A 22-year veteran of the Schertz Police Department was arrested early Thursday on suspicion of driving while under the influence, officials said in a news release.
Sergeant Michael McGuire, 55, was taken into custody around 4:10 a.m. at the Sycamore Creek Apartments complex off Elbel Road, the release says. He was off-duty at the time, but authorities haven’t provided more details on the circumstances of his arrest.
He was booked into the Guadalupe County Jail and faces a DWI charge. Meanwhile, Schertz PD is investigating his alleged actions.
“I am disheartened to learn of the arrest of Sgt. McGuire because it represents a deviation from the commitment all officers make when we take our oath and pin on the badge,” Police Chief Jim Lowery said in a statement. “We will learn from this, grow as an agency as Schertz PD remains committed to providing professional police services with honor, integrity, accountability and transparency. Being a leader in the community doesn’t stop when the uniform comes off.”
McGuire is behind bars on a $10,000 bond. He’ll remain on administrative leave from duty pending the outcome of the investigation.
