Chief William McManus said a suspect was shot after he allegedly pulled a knife following a chase.
SAN ANTONIO — San Antonio police said an officer used deadly force on a suspect after a traffic stop turned into a chase on the city’s north side Sunday evening.
SAPD Chief William McManus said an officer conducted a traffic stop on a driver at a gas station near Vance Jackson and Loop 410. As the officer approached the vehicle, McManus said the suspect jumped from the passenger side and ran through yards in the nearby neighborhood.
The officer chased the suspect near the 200 Block of Birchwood drive according to police. That’s when the suspect allegedly stopped and pulled a knife.
McManus said the officer attempted to tase the suspect but it did not work. The officer then resorted to deadly force, according to police, using his firearm to stop the suspect.
Police said the suspect, a 43-year-old male, was pronounced dead.
According to McManus, the man had drug possession, burglary and unauthorized use of a vehicle convictions and was currently on parole until 2029. Police also mentioned the suspect reportedly had a gun in plain view.
The officer had four years experience with SAPD, according to officials.
This is a developing story.
