The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating the Tuesday-afternoon incident.

SAN ANTONIO — Federal authorities are investigating after a plane crashed in a rural part of Fredericksburg on Tuesday afternoon, killing one person, local officials said.

According to an online post from Fredericksburg Fire/EMS, authorities responded to Keese Sagebiel Road around 4 p.m. after hearing of a possible downed aircraft.

“Upon arrival, crews located a single aircraft down and fully engulfed in flames within heavy brush,” the post reads. “Unfortunately, one fatality has been confirmed.”

The person who died hasn’t been identified and it’s unknown if they were the sole person aboard the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board shared on X that it would be investigating the crash, which the agency said involved a Lancair Legacy plane. Those are two-seat, single-engine aircraft that weigh around 2,200 pounds and can cruise at speeds of up to 276 mph.
