OFFICIALS: 3 accused of having pipe bomb during East Texas traffic stop identified

NACOGDOCHES COUNTY, Texas — Three people were arrested after officials say they were in possession of a pipe bomb in Deep East Texas.

Brandon Thomas Lightfoot, 28, Misti Michelle Fink, 32, and Melanie Marie Lyman, 38, were pulled over by deputies near the intersection of FM 226 and CR 560 in Etoile at 10:15 p.m. Monday night. The stop was near the former Etoile Independent School District campus, the Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office said. 

After searching the vehicle, deputies found a homemade explosive device underneath the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Once the bomb was found, deputies asked people in a nearby home to leave as a precaution. The Houston Police Department bomb squad responded, and the Tyler Fire Department bomb squad inspected and disarmed the device, according to the sheriff’s office. 

Law enforcement also found found two rifles and a handgun. One of the rifles being reported as stolen. There was also bag in the backseat that had marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Deputies found suspected MDMA in the center console. A second pistol was found later, the NCSO said. 

Lightfoot is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a prohibited weapon, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon. His bonds are set at $30,000. Fink is charged with possession of a controlled substance, theft of a firearm and unlawful carrying of a weapon. Her bonds are set at $20,000. Lyman is charged with unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a controlled substance and for theft of a firearm. Her bonds totaled $75,000. 

All three remain in the Nacogdoches County Jail.
