SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County deputy constable was shot at and law enforcement are responding to an east-side apartment complex Tuesday afternoon, according to officials.

Tommy Calvert, the county commissioner for Precinct 4, said the Precinct 4 deputy constable was wearing a protective vest, adding their injuries are “not considered significant.”

The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) said in a Facebook post around 5:30 p.m. that the deputy constable was serving an eviction notice at the time, adding the suspect “is currently barricaded.”

A heavy police presence is visible at the Artisan at Willow Springs complex, which is near the Frost Bank Center grounds and across the street from the KOA campground. Authorities said the area around the 500 block of Gembler is blocked and drivers should “expect delays in that area for an undetermined amount of time.”

Authorities started responding around 4:04 p.m.

A resident who lives in the area told KENS 5 the neighborhood is usually quiet and one where “everybody looks out for everybody.”

“We heard the gunfire, we heard the shots, pow-pow-pow-pow-pow-pow! And then we hear helicopters,” the man said.

A KENS 5 crew is on scene and working to find out more information.

This is a developing story.
