Officials seize over $800K in marijuana hidden in shipment of seat cushions at border

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers discovered the almost 360 pounds of drugs at the World Trade Bridge in Laredo.

LAREDO, Texas — Officials stopped almost 360 pounds of marijuana found hidden inside a shipment of seat cushions from entering Texas on Friday.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Field Operations officers at the World Trade Bridge were performing a routine inspection on a 2023 Chevrolet S10 Max, using both non-intrusive imaging and canines, when they made the discovery.

The packages of marijuana have a street value of more than $804,000.

“CBP is proud of the work our frontline officers do to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our communities,” said Port Director Alberto Flores, Laredo Port of Entry. “This seizure is an example of ongoing operational efforts conducted daily to protect our borders.”

CBP seized the narcotics and Homeland Security Investigations special agents will be investigating.
