Kevin Porter, Jr. was charged with assault and strangulation after New York police said he hit his girlfriend multiple times and put his hands around her neck.

HOUSTON — One of the charges has been dropped against the Houston Rockets player accused of beating and choking his girlfriend at a New York hotel last month.

Kevin Porter, Jr. was charged with assault and strangulation after New York police said he hit his girlfriend multiple times and put his hands around her neck.

According to the New York Post, authorities dropped the second-degree assault charge due to insufficient evidence. He still faces the strangulation charge and third-degree assault charges.

Porter is out of jail on bond and due back in court next month, but he’s been sidelined by the Rockets and banned from team activities as the case unfolds.
