In all, police said 15 people were injured. They said it started when an uninvited person was asked to leave.
HOUSTON — Multiple people were shot in what police are calling a chaotic scene. When it was over, at least one person was dead and several others were in critical condition. Police said a total of 15 people were injured.
The call came in a little before 1 a.m. about a shooting on Cherryhill, which is near the South Loop and Mykawa. Investigators said officers arrived within three minutes and were still hearing gunfire.
According to HPD, a witness stated that the shooting took place during a large house party. During the party, there was an altercation and multiple gunshots were fired.
According to Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu, it started when there was an uninvited guest who was asked to leave and that’s when the gunfire started.
“He left. As he was leaving, he began shooting in the area,” Cantu said. “There was return fire from the residents as well.”
An 18-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
At least 15 others were taken to different area hospitals by Houston Fire Department paramedics or by private vehicle, according to HPD. The injured persons range in age from 16 to 40 years old. At this time, identities and current conditions are not known.
Officers detained several persons at the scene, who were questioned and released. No suspects are in custody at this time.
Anyone with information in this case or who might have been present at the time of the shooting is urged to contact the HPD Homicide Division at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.

Cantu said there were multiple scenes officers were investigating, and many of those who were injured were scattered at various spots around the home where the party was happening.
“This scene is ongoing,” Cantu said. “It’s still very complicated. It was chaotic from the get-go getting here.”
Some of the injured were taken by ambulance, while others self-transported.
Brandon Angel was one of the people at the party who witnessed the chaos. He described the scene to KHOU 11’s Stephen Goin.
“I was trying to get covered. I was hiding, I’m not going to lie,” he said. “You could still hear the shots. Shots were still going off left and right. I don’t know. Everything just went downhill.”
Police detained several people at the scene for questioning. Cantu said anyone who was at the party should contact the Houston Police Department at 713-308-3600 or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS (5237).
“Homicide will later start pushing out suspect information to get your help to get this person detained and arrested,” Cantu said.
At this point, we don’t have any information about the victims.
