San Marcos police are investigating a number of overnight shootings, one of which was fatal.
SAN MARCOS, Texas — San Marcos police are investigating two separate shootings that happened overnight, leaving one person dead and several others injured.
The first shooting occurred around 10 p.m. Saturday near Kissing Alley on Hopkins Street in the downtown square. Police said three people were taken to the hospital, where one of them later died.
Investigators are now searching for two suspects believed to have left the downtown area in a four-door silver or gray Audi A3. Hopkins Street was shut down between LBJ Drive and Guadalupe Street for several hours as officers collected evidence.
At around 1:15 a.m. Sunday, San Marcos Police Chief Stan Standridge ordered bars in the downtown area to close.
A second, unrelated shooting was reported around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at the outpost on Post Road. Officers arrived and found shell casings and a large amount of blood near a pool. One person was taken to the hospital with injuries. Police say this shooting was unrelated to the shooting on Hopkins Street, and the suspect in this incident has not been located.
At around 1:50 a.m., police say as they were leaving Hopkins Street, multiple gunshots were fired. Officers chased down and arrested the suspected shooter. Police say it is unclear if anything was hit by the gunfire, and that this incident was unrelated to the prior shootings.
Authorities said the incidents do not appear to be connected.
Anyone with information about either shooting is urged to contact San Marcos police at 512-753-2108.
