One dead, three injured after suspects sped away from officers and crashed

Police say all of the suspects were ejected from the vehicle in the crash.

SAN ANTONIO — A suspected stolen vehicle chase ended in a deadly crash overnight on the city’s northwest side, leaving one person dead and three others seriously injured.

It ended in the 10500 block of Huebner Road near Fredericksburg Road around 5:19 a.m.

According to San Antonio Police, officers were already at the scene recovering a separate stolen vehicle when a group of suspects drove up to them—also in a stolen car.

This isn’t the first time something like this has happened, according to police. Officers say for about a week, they’ve been dealing with individuals driving up on patrol units, pointing guns, and trying to run officers off the road.

While it’s still unclear if this group is connected to previous incidents, this time, officers pursued the suspects.

The brief chase began but officers say they lost site of the stolen car near Blanco and Huebner. That’s when SAPD’s helicopter unit, Eagle, was called in to help track the vehicle.

Soon after, officers say they spotted the suspects again—traveling at a high rate of speed. Moments later, the driver lost control near Fredericksburg and Huebner and crashed.

All four people inside the car—described as being in their late teens to early 20s—were ejected from the vehicle.

One suspect died at the scene. The remaining three were rushed to a nearby hospital, including one with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the investigation is still active, and they are working to determine whether this group is connected to the recent string of confrontations involving stolen cars and armed suspects targeting patrol units.
