No one was injured in the emergency.
SAN ANTONIO — The San Antonio Fire Department was able to prevent a large fire from spreading beyond two homes in a residential area north of downtown Tuesday night, but one of those houses was declared a total loss by officials.
No one was injured in the blaze, which broke out around 9:14 p.m. along the 300 block of East Huisache, a few blocks from San Antonio College. SAFD Spokesperson Joe Arrington said the close proximity of homes in the area provided a challenge, but firefighters were able to limit the damage.
“Crews worked extremely hard to keep it minimized to the two homes,” said Arrington. “It could have spread very quickly down the block. We could have lost more.”
SAFD is working with the Red Cross to rehome those affected.
Video provided by a community member showed large flames and people watching from a distance.

SAFD was still working to put out hot spots as of 10:25 p.m., and they still had to investigate what may have started the fire.
