One man dead after being struck by train west of downtown area, SAFD says

The incident happened at the east intersection of W. Martin Street and N. Medina Street.

SAN ANTONIO — A man was killed in a “freak accident” after being hit by a train just west of downtown Thursday afternoon, San Antonio officials say. 

Emergency responders were dispatched to the 1300 block of W Martin Street around 4:15p.m. 

Police say a train was stopped and a man was trying to get to the other side by walking between the train cars, when the train suddenly started moving. The man was then dragged for at least 10 feet. 

Fire officials say the man was pronounced dead and say he appeared to be about 25 years old. No other injuries were reported. 

The incident happened at the east intersection of W. Martin Street and N. Medina Street.
